Time

How do I think about time and how to use it.

Time is the 4th dimension beyond the 3-dimensional space we live in now. This creates space time.

Through Einstein’s Law of Relativity, and Cooper not staying with Murph, we know that time is relative. Time is not experienced the same by everyone everywhere.

Does the future exist? Does the past exist?

The answer depends on your philosophy and career.

As a materialist you may believe that only what has studied evidence exists.

As a solipsist you may believe that only what you experience actually exists. So technically since it is only possible to experience the present moment then the future and past do not exist other than as memories or visions, which can only appear in the present moment.

As a meta-physicist you may believe that on the 5th dimension above space-time, all events on all timeline are happening at once. So the past, future, and present are one.

To be a gardener is to live in the future.

To be a monk is to live in the present.

To be a archeologist is to live in the past.

In the Chinese language, there is no grammar for past tense and future tense. There is no, “I ran.” or “I will run.”

It is only “I run… Yesterday I run… Tomorrow I run.”

And speaking Chinese as a first language actually changes how time is perceived.

This is apparent when comparing how English speaking people with past and future tense grammar spend money in comparison to Chinese speaking people.

Chinese save more of their money. While English speaking people have more debt.

No matter what though, the flow of global relations relies on a shared understanding and tracking system of time.

An atomic clock.

How to improve your usage of time?

Do a time audit of the day and week and write down literally every single thing that you do and the time which you did it. This can be done so easily with a little notebook in your pocket or on your notes app on your phone.

Time will begin to reveal itself.

Then decide to schedule in everything or to just go with the flow based on values and priorities.

How much control do you need? How much do you trust your discipline?
